1Halmir the Grey, keeper of the rolls of the old orders, has named the Arcane Archers' trial: on the proving ground of Rivendell stands the oldest target the wardens ever set, and deep in its gold ring a grey-fletched shaft loosed by a warden of the Galadhrim in an elder year. I am to draw the shaft from the mark and carry it back to Halmir at the Well of Eru. The mark will yield it only to a hand that comes as an archer comes -- bow in hand, arrow nocked, quiver full; come any other way and the shaft will not move.q_arc_start
2At the old target on Rivendell's proving ground, with my bow in hand and an arrow nocked, the warden's shaft came free like a note leaving a string -- grey-fletched, straight as the day it flew, and faintly humming. I should carry it back to Halmir at the Well of Eru.q_arc_target
3finalHalmir took the warden's shaft and entered my name on the grey-feathered page of his roll. He gave me the Bracers of the Grey Fletching, and the Arcane Archers now count me among those whose arrow and art are one motion.q_arc_finish
