| 1 | Halmir the Grey, keeper of the rolls of the old orders, has named the Red Dragon Disciples' trial: in the great hall of the Lonely Mountain stands the Forge of Durin, and under its banked coals an ember of the old wyrm's fire -- the fire that ruined Dale -- still glows, and has not gone out in all the years since. I am to rake the ember out and carry it back to Halmir at the Well of Eru. The fire gives itself only to its own kin: I must shed every ward against the elements and reach in with a bare hand -- the blood must feel the flame. | q_rdd_start | |
| 2 | At the Forge of Durin in the Lonely Mountain's great hall, with a bare and unwarded hand, I drew the Ember of the Old Wyrm from under the banked coals. It did not burn me -- it beats instead, slow and patient, like a second heart that has recognized its own. I should carry it back to Halmir at the Well of Eru. | q_rdd_forge | |
| 3 | final | Halmir took the ember in his bare palm and entered my name on the scorched page of his roll. He gave me the Wyrmblood Amulet, and the Red Dragon Disciples now count me among those whose blood has felt the flame and answered it. | q_rdd_finish |
