| 1 | Halmir the Grey, keeper of the rolls of the old orders, has named the Assassins' trial -- and it is not a killing; any brawler can kill. A sealed writ has been left at one of the quiet knives' dead drops: the old wine barrel standing against the houses of Bree. I am to lift it as the order would -- moving in shadow, unseen, with no eye able to mark my hand when I reach for it. If I come to the barrel openly, the drop will stay empty. The writ must return to Halmir at the Well of Eru sealed and unread. | q_asn_start | |
| 2 | At the old wine barrel in Bree, moving unseen, I drew out the Sealed Writ from beneath the rim. The black wax is unbroken and the name inside unread, as instructed. It should go back to Halmir at the Well of Eru -- quietly. | q_asn_drop | |
| 3 | final | Halmir broke the seal himself, read the single name written there, and held the writ to the candle until it was ash. The name was my own: the quiet knives' trial is to collect your own death warrant unseen, and the order strikes it from the ledger exactly once. He gave me the Gloves of the Quiet Hand, and the Assassins now count me among them -- on the page no one will ever read. | q_asn_finish |
