Charm of the Carrock
A claw of grey Carrock-stone on a plaited cord of horsehair and bear-gut, warm to the touch in any weather. The Beornings hang its like over their door-posts, and the skin-changers wear it against the skin -- whichever skin: a charm at the throat rides through most changes of shape when heavier gear will not. Halmir the Grey gave it over when the Tuft of the First Skin was laid in his hand -- the token of those the orders call Shifters, who wear another shape and keep their own name inside it.
