Ember of the Old Wyrm

An ember no larger than a walnut, drawn bare-handed from under the banked coals of the Forge of Durin. It is the fire the old wyrm breathed when he took the Mountain -- the fire that ruined Dale -- and it has not gone out in all the years since. It does not burn the hand that holds it; it beats instead, slow and patient, like a second heart that has recognized its own. Halmir the Grey asked that it be carried back to him.
