Oath-Light of the West

A small flame that weighs nothing and does not gutter, kindled from the polished stone of the Altar of the Istari in the temple of Minas Tirith. It gives no heat, casts no shadow, and cannot be set down -- the altar lends its light only to a hand that came bearing a shield, and takes it back from any hand that tries to spend it. The chaplains call it an oath-light: proof that a vigil was kept as the order keeps it, standing between, and it means nothing to anyone but Halmir the Grey, who keeps the Champions' page by candlelight.
